In insects it’s the process of transformation from an immature form to an adult form in two or more distinct stages, such as a chrysalis to a butterfly. Websters defines it as a change of physical form, structure or substance especially by supernatural means.
In my new book The Netahs, Josh must learn how to control his transformation from a human teenager into an elk. That’s definitely two distinct stages. Puberty changes every human. As a halfling, puberty has set his Netah transformation in motion. Josh’s biggest challenge is to figure out how to make the transformation at will. All full Netahs learn how to do that as they grow up, but he doesn’t know anything about it until he’s fourteen years old. Josh has no choice in the matter. He will change. He can choose to embrace it, but he cannot ignore it. Josh gets through the ups and downs of a steep and dangerous learning curve with the help of friends and with humor. I think that’s the best way to handle every challenge. |
